on staying connected

The free wifi situation in London is brutal.

For the second time this week I've been lured by the promise of free wi-fi only to find out that it doesn't work after I've ordered my food.

Partially my fault for ordering before finding out if what i'm really after is working but they don't do table service in the pubs here and I didn't want to haul out my computer first and then leave it unattended while I go order my drink.

At least today I'm in a pub and not a McDonald's like I was on Sunday.

Two weeks into this trip I found my not having the internet on demand on my phone to be dissatisfying.

Not because I can't stand to not be looking at my phone but I've been frustrated in those moments when I've wanted access and couldn't get it. Like tonight. Or on those long train rides. There's only so many sheep a guy can make eyes, I mean, look at.

So I now have a world phone that should work around the globe and I'll be swapping SIM cards on my travels.
