im pionierlager

Along Karl-Liebknecht-Stasse in Berlin there is a photo exhibit designed to commemorate the 20th anniversary of some relationship between Berlin and Moscow. The photos are of the Soviet Union and cover a time period of decades.

In this exhibit is the following photo, "Im Pionierlager (Youn Pioneers Defence)," taken in 1937 by Soviet photojournalist Viktor Bulla.

Bulla's father, Karl, is considered the father of photojournalism in Russia.

Viktor was the official photographer of the Leningrad Soviet but, in 1938, during the Great Purge, was accused of being a German spy and shot.
